    Facility Details

    This hospital serves communities throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine. It is the state's second largest hospital with over 400 inpatient beds. It is the state's only provider of trauma care in its class, and the only advanced critical care provider, in eastern and northern Maine. It is a major training affiliate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. The facility hosts an outreach and support service for local hospitals throughout Maine and serves as a resource for physicians, patients, and healthcare students.     Surg Tech Job Responsibilities

    CST's prepare operating rooms for surgery, sterilize equipment, and ensure adequate supplies for surgery. They ready patients for surgery, and help surgeons by passing instruments and sterile supplies.
     
    Certification is often required as a condition of employment. To earn certification, operating room technicians must pass a nationally administered examination. They must be currently or previously certified or be a graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is the certifying agency. Renewal requires continuing education credits or retaking the certifying exam. There is also an advanced credential for surgical first assistants.
