    This hospital serves communities throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine. It is the state's second largest hospital with over 400 inpatient beds. It is the state's only provider of trauma care in its class, and the only advanced critical care provider, in eastern and northern Maine. It is a major training affiliate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. The facility hosts an outreach and support service for local hospitals throughout Maine and serves as a resource for physicians, patients, and healthcare students.     Rad. Tech Job Responsibilities

    Radiological technicians monitor patients and machines before and during the procedure. Techs position the patient in relation to the machine, making sure that all the necessary protective precautions are taken and lead shields have been draped correctly.
     

    Radiology technicians must first complete a high school diploma or GED, then go on to a certificate program or a 2- or 4-year degree program in radiology, all of which must be certified by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). A prospective radiological tech must normally sit for an examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. A voluntary certification is offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and many employers prefer to hire radiographers who have been certified.
